Since decades, the classic division between traditional artistic disciplines has dissolved. Many of today’s contemporary artists are working in a variety of techniques. Suthipa Kamyam from Thailand is truly one of those border-crossing artists. Having a degree of Master of Fine Arts in Design from HDK-School in Gothenburg, Suthipa Kamyam is nowadays living in Bangkok working with illustration, pattern design, graphic design and photography. You might also have seen her work earlier on clothes from Swedish clothing brand Velour.
Whenever Suthipa begins with an artwork, she looks back into herself, into her memories and its images. Her inspiration also comes from nature, story, people, culture, history and tradition. Exclusively for Up Your Wall, Suthipa Kamyam has drawn three dreamlike illustrations. The project is called The Mountains of Nowhere and the motives hail from a trip to the Norwegian fjords that Suthipa did during the summer of 2011. The black and white illustrations that depict beautiful yet mystic animals, the starlit night sky and an endless nature allow the viewer to travel far from the modern urban environment.
